SC Promise/SC Wins: Technical College Scholarship

SC•WINS is a statewide technical college scholarship program designed to address workforce shortages in South Carolina. The scholarship supplements Lottery Tuition Assistance to help cover any tuition and mandatory fees left after applying all other scholarships or grants.

Students will be eligible to receive the SC•WINS scholarship if they meet one of the following criteria:

  1. A student must be receiving a Lottery Tuition Assistance Program Scholarship (LTAP) for the current academic year and majoring in a critical workforce area as defined by the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education. Example majors include: construction, hospitality/tourism, and information technology.
  2. A student must be receiving a LTAP scholarship for the current academic year and meet the USDA income eligibility guidelines for free and reduced-priced meals.

Programs
A student must be enrolled in a certificate, diploma or degree program from one of the SC Technical College System’s 16 colleges. Students can receive the SC•WINS for only one certificate, diploma or degree unless the additional certificate, diploma or degree constitutes progress in the same field of study. Classes
A student must be enrolled in at least six credit hours per semester, including at least three hours in one of the critical workforce areas.

GPA/Continued Eligibility
A student must have earned at least a 2.0 GPA after attempting 24 credit hours. Dual enrollment courses taken in high school in critical workforce area programs count toward the fulfillment of the minimum major course requirement for freshmen.

Changing Majors
Changing majors is allowed within the acceptable disciplines in workforce program areas.

Covered Expenses
For the Fall 2019 semester, recipients will receive $50 per credit hour up to $600 total after applying all other scholarships or grants. The scholarship may cover the cost of tuition and mandatory fees. There is also a book allowance of up to $300 per year if a student is enrolled in at least one course in a critical workforce area during the semester.
